Local Shift Services (LSS)

The Local Shift Service (LSS) is a windows service running locally at the customer site on an interface server or terminal box. The LSS allows terminal operations to continue during a loss of connectivity to the back office.

When the terminal uses LSS, the Terminal Status Indicator turns to amber when the terminal goes offline. This indicates the terminal is using LSS as a backup server.

Terminal Options Supported

Terminal Option

Description

279 (Use Local Shift Services (LSS))

If this terminal option is enabled, the transaction data is saved in the server where LSS is active and not in the POS server. When the terminal is back online, the transaction data in this server is uploaded to the POS server.

Apart from enabling the terminal option, any other configuration related to setting up the LSS must also be done in IGCM.

LSS Functionality

Most of the terminal functions cannot be performed when the terminal is offline. But some of the terminal functions can still be performed when the terminal lost connection with host server but connected to the LSS.

LSS supports the full suite of InfoGenesis POS shift services for employee and terminal shift reports, including:

  • Check services: save, recall, tender, void, refund, and recall check list

  • Sequential order number (store level and profit center specific)

  • Employee services: clock-in, clock-out, sign-on, sign-off.

  • Tip services: tip transfer and tip payout

  • Loans and withdrawals

  • Shift resets and reports

  • Tip transfer report

  • Employee termination

When using LSS, performing a 110 or 111 report resets all shift data.
